#66 – More Questions, More Answers (ish)

Jen Wilkin, JT English, and Kyle Worley answer questions from listeners.

Questions Covered in This Episode:

  • How do you deal with someone being indwelt with the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament (Exodus 31:1)? How were people able to write under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit if they were not indwelt with the Spirit?
  • What do you think is the biggest need is for college kids?
  • When a church fills a pastoral vacancy with someone who is outside of where the church has been theologically or denominationally, what do you do when there are differences? Should you stay or go somewhere else?
  • How do we reconcile the prevalent evil that has prevailed? Do we just let it be, or do we continue to voice objections?
  • Kyle, what was your original tagline for Mosaic Church?
  • If a 12-year-old asks what is the difference between a Christian man and a Christian woman, what would you say?
  • Recently there have been discussions over complementarianism in the SBC. There was recently an incident with John Macarthur and Beth Moore. What are you guys going to say about this?
  • What are the benefits or dangers of reading the apocryphal or non-canonical writings?
  • General-purpose commentaries or resources for bible study and teaching?
  • Can we speak of Jesus Christ as eternally existent or just the Son only?
  • What would you say to a friend who says they don’t need any other sources for spiritual growth outside of scripture?
  • The difference between the Son being eternally begotten and eternally subordinate?
  • Is the bible only inerrant in its original manuscripts and what does this mean for trusting the bibles we have?

Helpful Definitions:

  • Solo Scriptura: Scripture alone.
  • Sola Scriptura: By Scripture alone. The Bible alone is authoritative but we need tradition to come alongside to help us become better readers.
  • Eternally Begotten: The Son’s unique attribute in relation to the Father and the Spirit: the Son is sourced in the Father, but there was never a time when the Son began. All things are from the Father, through the Son, and by the Spirit.
  • Inerrancy: Without error. God’s word is wholly true and trustworthy in everything that it claims about what was, what is, and what will be.
  • Inspired: God is the author of all scripture.
  • Illumination: We come to the Bible entirely dependent on the Spirit to teach.
